Large crowds ignored the heat of the Hayward weather Sunday, 09-20-09 to watch the 1st annual FilCom Basketball Association Day parade. This year, the awards went to the DEFENDING CHAMPIONS BAY AREA for Best Team Captain; SPARTANS for the parent and the kid 3-point shootout; PEPSI BOYS for the Best Uniform and XCEEDING LIMITS for the Best Muse (MIA) and for the Outstanding Team Spirit. We had players from Pacific Bay Dental, Outlaws, Hunters, P*Unit, SF Warriors and many more to represent their teams. Although thirsty and drained from the heat, lots of children and adults were happy to sit through the wonderfully entertaining performance of local, rapper, Percy the P-NISHER. Accompanying him was DJ Mark Arabit, spinning the turntable with a fierceness. Some fans arrived as early as 1:30 p.m. to check out the teams, to see which teams are contenders for the upcoming season. The parade began with each team coming in through the front door as they were being announced. Committee members Michael Wong, Jay Cabayan and Ed Cordero addressed the players and the fans, thanking them for being able to spend the afternoon with us. John Telintelo team Captain for GENESIS was nearby and Brother Norman from Agape Christian Fellowship was present to give the opening prayer. There were new and old teams alike, mingling and getting to know each other. Kids wore their jerseys and carried flags and banners to represent the teams. All in all, it was a very enjoyable event. Seeing families come together to support their husbands, sons, brothers, cousins and/or significant others showed us just how “powerful and inspirational the Filipino community can be,” as one player said. It was a success as we, the FilCom Committee, have seen a glimpse of our mission and what can be accomplished when we come together.
So…until the next parade, let’s have some fun and enjoy the season. Just remember "UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL"
